The Northwestern Alumni Association (NAA) has launched a new web page that brings together the University’s digital learning content – alumni.northwestern.edu/onlinelearning. The site offers a wealth of online resources from podcasts and lectures to news and publications on a variety of topics from Northwestern’s faculty, administration, and alumni. It is a veritable one-stop shop for the global Northwestern community to explore areas of interest and develop new skills.
“No matter when you graduated or which topics spark your interest, the Northwestern Alumni Association has an online educational offering for you,” says Crystal Warren, Senior Associate Director of Alumni Education and Recognition.
Included on the site are opportunities to learn about and enroll in Northwestern’s massive open online courses (MOOCs) on Coursera, videos and podcasts of lectures from live events featuring both faculty and alumni, and a calendar listing of upcoming webinars. With the exception of the live webinars, all of the content is offered asynchronously so it can be viewed at any time.
Also on the site are digital lectures from one of Northwestern’s most popular events, A Day with Northwestern. For more than 45 years, A Day with Northwestern has drawn more than 400 alumni, students, parents, and friends to campus for a full day of presentations and lectures on timely topics from prominent Northwestern faculty and alumni. Key lectures are filmed so that those who cannot be there in person can enjoy the engaging discussions.
Other great content included are the NAA’s in-demand monthly educational webinars featuring Northwestern faculty, staff, and administrators, as well as a weekly webinar series that focuses on professional development. They offer the chance to hear experts discuss topics such as groundbreaking discoveries in Alzheimer’s disease, crafting a story, making an industry change, managing employees, and taking the entrepreneurial plunge.
A recent webinar focused on an exciting breakthrough made by the Northwestern Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory (LIGO) research team on the detection of gravitational waves from the collision of two black holes – a major event that confirmed one of the key predictions from Albert Einstein’s 1915 general theory of relativity. The webinar was hosted by Professor Shane Larson, a member of the research team and associate professor of physics at Weinberg. Register to receive the webinar recording.
